I Thought We Were Moving Forward. We’re Not.
Where Do I Even Begin?
I have no idea where to begin, but the USA, the way I used to know it, and the way so many others use to know it, is over. In some ways, that could have been a good thing. Maybe even a much-needed turning point. There was a chance to rebuild the country into something more inclusive, more tolerant, and more humane. But that is not what is happening.
Racism Isn’t Hiding Anymore
Instead, what I see is a country that is becoming more and more openly racist, against everyone who is not white. Sooner or later, marginalized people in government will start to notice when they are no longer safe in their roles. Then what? The current administration seems determined to chip away at the Constitution, piece by piece, replacing democratic values with some sort of dictatorial “leadership”. Every day feels like another step away from what America was supposed to stand for.
The Hatred Is Loud Now
I am so saddened by how many people still carry so much hate, for people of color, for immigrants, for anyone who does not fit into their narrow idea of what it means to be “White American”. These people are really scary, and the nationalists who used to hide are now feeling comfortable coming out. This is a very, very frightening time in the USA, because everyone knows it is congagious over to other countries. It spreads, as we see more of in European countries.
White Supremacy in Uniform
And another thing is the growing number of KKK-style groups that are openly marching, recruiting, and working their way into positions of authority, like the police, the military, and other government offices. I know they have always existed, but now they do not even try to hide it. The ones who were already in these positions have no problem showing it either, now they flaunt it. This is not a fringe thing anymore. It is chilling, because it is creeping into the very systems that are supposed to protect us all.
What’s Happening in Gaza Hurts Us All
What are we even doing? We watch the suffering, the killing, the slow erasure of an entire people, and most of the world stays silent. Maybe we were never better than this. Maybe we are not a global community at all, just a bunch of cowards in suits and screens, trading human lives for profit and pretending it’s diplomacy.
We wear the mask of civilization, but underneath, we’re still driven by greed, power, and fear. Not human in any meaningful sense, just brutal, selfish creatures who figured out how to build cities and invent credit cards. We pat ourselves on the back for progress while ignoring genocide in real time.
I used to think Western governments stood for something better. But that was just a story we were sold.
Capitalism is too deeply invested in power, war, and profit to ever allow real change.
Family Doesn’t Always Mean Understanding
What really shakes me is that at least one of my brothers supports the Israeli government. He is not Jewish. He was not raised in any religion. Yet he is all gang-ho about Israel’s right to extinguish an entire people. It blows my mind. Especially considering his soon-to-be wife is half Arabic and half Norwegian, and he himself is half Black and half Norwegian. But he identifies as white Norwegian, so maybe I should not be surprised. And still, I am. He has gone blind to humanity and gotten sold on the age old writings of men!
Erased History and Selective Identity
I have also realized how little he knows, or wants to know, about his Black heritage. When he supports Trump’s call to import white South Africans, it shows how deep that disconnect really is.
We Are Not As Evolved As We Pretend To Be
I am constantly in shock over how little we have moved forward when it comes to inclusivity, and simply recognizing that everyone has equal rights to life. Yes, I do not like what Islam stands for, at least as it is portrayed by extremists and anti-Islam voices. I have never read the Quran myself. But either way, I do not believe Muslims should be killed. I do not believe in collective punishment.
Stop “Saving” the World You Keep Destroying
Also, why can’t America and Europeans keep their hands out of countries that are not theirs? Why can’t they work out fair deals with these countries instead? Maybe then there would not be so many people seeking refuge in their so-called “beloved” white nations.
This Is About Humanity, Not Politics
Honestly, I am exhausted. Scared. Angry. And more than anything, deeply sad. Because this is not just about politics anymore. This is about humanity. And we are failing, loudly, visibly, and unapologetically.
