Budapest, Here We Come!
Yes, we’re traveling again, but this time it’s just me and my partner. Just so we’re clear, he’s the travel obsessed one in this relationship. What’s on his “bucket list”? Traveling! Something he makes sure to do at least twice a year …
I just tag along … lol. That being said, I NEVER say no when the trip includes me, so this time he has decided that we’re going to Budapest.
✈️ We’re Going to Budapest!
I’ve never been to Budapest. I don’t know that much about the city, but what I do know is that I want to see the Parliament Building, because I’ve heard it’s absolutely huge. I’m not entirely sure I’m interested in seeing St. Stephen’s Basilica (Szent István-bazilika), the city’s largest church. I’m not really that interested in churches. I feel like churches were created to control people, based on what I’ve learned from history. 😂
I also hope we get to see the “Banks of the Danube, the Buda Castle Quarter and Andrássy Avenue,” since it’s on the UNESCO World Heritage List and includes Buda Castle and Matthias Church, which dates back to the 14th century. Just think, there are buildings that have been preserved since the 1300s! Pretty amazing, if you ask me!
Spa, Thermal Baths and Three Days in Budapest
We’ll see if we have time to treat ourselves to a spa experience as well. I’d love to visit a thermal bath that has been in use since Roman times. After all, we’re only going to be there for three days!
My guy has been there once before, but that was more than 20 years ago, so he doesn’t remember much. I learned just a few minutes ago, after snooping around (I use Firefox 😉) online, that Budapest is known as the spa capital of Europe, with more than 100 medicinal geothermal springs.
My Guy Has Already Planned the Trip
Of course, my guy has already booked sightseeing tours through GetYourGuide. The first one we’re going on is a ruin pub crawl for NOK 59 on the day we arrive … hehe. Then we’re going on a walking tour with a local storyteller for NOK 33 per person.
What Are We Going to Eat in Budapest?
When it comes to food, I’ve already tasted the national dish, goulash, but I’d love to try it where it comes from. And did you know that it’s said to have originated in the 9th century?
From what I’ve read, Hungarian cuisine is considered one of the spiciest in Europe, thanks to the use of Hungarian paprika, which is the country’s national spice. Paprika comes in both mild, or sweet, and hot varieties and is used in countless dishes.
🧳 What Have I Packed for Budapest?
As I said, my guy plans all our trips, and I write about them … I’m a terrible packer. I always bring either too much, too little, or the wrong clothes. This time, I’ve packed:
- 3 pairs of underwear
- 4 pairs of socks
- 1 swimsuit
- 1 pair of shorts
- 4 tops
- 3 dresses
- 1 toothbrush
- Face cream
- Phone charger + watch charger (I forgot this one when we went to Greece this summer)
- My medication
- Q-tips
- Makeup (blush + lipstick, mascara, and lip liner)
- Makeup remover
- Canon Zoemini 2 + paper
- My bullet journal
I’m Not Going to Stress!
One thing I don’t want to do … stress or get up early. Nope, I want to wake up when I wake up, as long as it doesn’t clash with our sightseeing plans 😬😄
But I know my guy. He’s going to get up before me, which means I’ll end up getting up at the same time as him. Unfortunately for me, that’s always way earlier than I actually want to get up 😄😂.
Three Days, Lots of Walking and a Schedule
I already know there’s going to be a lot of walking. On all our city trips, I’d much rather just wander around and see what we stumble across, but thank goodness the hubby puts together a schedule. Every time we go somewhere, I’m always glad he has made an agenda … lol.
And since Budapest has 38 restaurants featured in the MICHELIN Guide and is considered one of the world’s top 50 food cities for its distinctive Hungarian cuisine, I’m hoping we get to visit one of them too.
